Hi, funtastic readers! As you’re preparing to go to sleep, after a long and fun day, I know you’re keen on hearing a new bedtime story! As part of our moral stories for kids, today we have planned to unravel a mysterious creature that was lurking in the dark…I will give you a hint: it loves termites! I’m not sure if you figured out what’s the creature I’m talking about but, don’t worry if you didn’t, you will soon will! So get cozy and let’s start this new adventure in the savannah!
Varky, the Mystery Snout
In the heart of the African savannah, where the golden grass stretched as far as the eye could see, all the animals lived peacefully – that is, until a strange mystery started to unfold.
Each morning, animals woke up to find the termite mounds destroyed, holes dug everywhere, and not a single termite left. The meerkats whispered nervously, “Who’s doing this? It must be something scary!”
The bush babies huddled in fright, “Maybe it’s a giant monster with sharp claws and big, glowing eyes!”
The animals became more scared with each passing night. Soon, even the bravest animals – the lions, the cheetahs, even the elephants – were whispering about the spooky creature that lurked in the night.
But there was one curious hyena named Hanni, who didn’t believe in spooky monsters. Hanni was smart and loved solving mysteries, so she decided to stay up late and watch the savannah to catch the culprit red-handed.
One dark and starry night, Hanni crept to the edge of the savannah, hid behind a tall acacia tree, and waited… and waited… until, finally, she saw a strange shadow moving in the distance. She held her breath as the shadow grew closer. She could make out something low to the ground, with a long snout, strong claws, and a body covered in dusty brown fur.
Hanni squinted in the moonlight and gasped. It was a funny-looking creature with strong, digging claws, a long, wiggly nose, and a sticky tongue that darted in and out. Hanni was fascinated. She had never seen a creature like this before!
The creature waddled over to a termite mound, sniffed around with its long snout, and then, without any warning, it started digging fast with its strong claws. Bits of dirt flew everywhere as it reached into the mound and gobbled up the termites with a big, sticky slurp!
“Ah-ha!” thought Hanni. “This is the culprit!” She laughed softly to herself and waited until the creature finished its midnight feast. Then, she stepped forward and called out, “Hey there, you’re no monster, are you?”
The creature jumped a little, startled, but then looked at Hanni with wide, kind eyes. “Oh, hello!” he said, his long nose wiggling as he spoke. “I’m Varky the aardvark. Termites are my favorite food! I just come out at night to enjoy my snack.”
Hanni chuckled. “Varky, you’ve been scaring all the animals without even knowing it! They think you’re a spooky monster, lurking in the night!”
Varky’s eyes widened in surprise. “Oh dear, I never meant to scare anyone! I’m just a hungry aardvark with a taste for termites.”
The next morning, Hanni called a meeting of all the animals and told them the truth about the “mystery monster” – it was just Varky the aardvark, enjoying his midnight snack. The animals were shocked at first, but then they laughed and felt relieved.
“It turns out there was nothing to be scared of after all!” said the meerkats.
From that day on, Varky wasn’t a spooky mystery anymore. Every night, if the animals happened to see him, they would wave and say, “Good night, Varky! Enjoy your termites!”
And Varky would wiggle his nose happily and continue his termite feast, knowing he was no longer a scary mystery but a friend to all.
Moral of the Story 🌟
Sometimes, things that seem scary are only frightening because we don’t understand them. When we take the time to be curious, explore, and learn the truth, we often find that our fears disappear. Just like Varky the aardvark, who seemed like a nighttime monster to the other animals, many things aren’t as they first appear. It’s easy to jump to conclusions when we’re unsure, but by investigating and asking questions, we can uncover the truth and find peace of mind. So, being brave and curious helps us see things as they truly are, and reminds us that understanding brings us closer to others rather than being afraid of them!
Learning from Varky’s Adventure: Advice for Parents and Kids 📚
Moral stories for kids, like Varky’s tale, are filled with fun lessons about curiosity, bravery, and understanding. Varky’s nighttime adventures taught the animals in the savannah (and us!) that things we don’t understand can seem scarier than they really are. When we’re brave enough to explore and discover the truth, we can see things for what they truly are – and feel much safer! Having that in mind, here are some helpful tips inspired by Varky’s story, for kids who are ready to be curious and for parents who want to guide them along the way.
For Kids: When you’re curious about something or even a little scared, remember that asking questions is a great first step. Just like Hanni the hyena, being brave and curious can help you learn the truth and understand things better. Next time you feel unsure, try to look closer or ask a trusted adult to help you explore. Often, there’s nothing to be afraid of – just something new to learn!
For Parents: Encourage your child’s natural curiosity and reassure them that it’s okay to question things that seem unfamiliar or strange. When you support their curiosity, they’re more likely to approach the unknown with confidence instead of fear. Taking a moment to discuss their worries or investigate something together can turn moments of uncertainty into learning experiences, building both trust and a love of discovery.
